shining a spotlight on Scottish horror
ABOUT THE blog
Terror in Tartan is a passion project from one horror-obsessed Scot who wants to celebrate horror from her homeland.
After starting life as a general horror blog, Terror in Tartan is transitioning to one focused uniquely on Scottish horror — amplifying regional filmmaking, unpacking cultural anxieties and local legends, and examining how Scottish identities, long suppressed, find voice through the genre.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Samantha McLaren is a queer Scottish writer, artist, and horror fanatic. Her bylines have appeared in Fangoria, Bloody Disgusting, Scream the Horror Magazine, and beyond.
Samantha grew up in a small town in Angus known for smoked fish and that one time a human head was found on the beach. She spent several years living in Edinburgh, where she worked as a ghost tour guide and a grumpy tourist information officer, before impulsively moving to New York City in 2016. While she doesn’t regret that move, she misses the Irn Bru.
